Awarded the Oscar for Best Foreign Film, this is a stylishly made political melodrama. Set in Germany in the 1920s it tells of an actor committed to the idea of a workers' theatre. Becoming a puppet of the Nazis, he renounces his family and friends to ensure his rise to stardom.
