MEPHISTO Hungary 1981 (15) - 144 minutes Ipswich Film Theatre - 14 October 2002 - 7.30pm Awarded the Oscar for Best Foreign Film, this is a stylishly made political melodrama. Set in Germany in the 1920s it tells of an actor committed to the idea of a workers' theatre. Becoming a puppet of the Nazis, he renounces his family and friends to ensure his rise to stardom.
