THE LIFE AND DEATH OF COLONEL BLIMP
UK 1943 (U) - 163 minutes
Ipswich Film Theatre -
11 April 2005
- 7.30pm
A salute to all that is paradoxical about the English, this is the story of one man's military career from the 1890s to the Second World War and beyond. His life-long friendship with a German officer and the loss of his only love to that same officer are sympathetically portrayed.
AUDIENCE COMMENTS:
A warm, charming, witty and sometimes powerful film. A real treat;
England's "La Grande Illusion". Fascinating;
Michael Powell was never afraid to tackle controversial stuff (Peeping Tom, for example). I can see why this film might have upset Churchill. Enjoyed it;
Interesting curiosity, but overlong. It was great;
It was interesting historically, but must admit I dropped off a couple of times.
