2004/05 Season

IN THE CUT

UK 2003 (18) - 118 minutes
Directed by Jane Campion

Ipswich Film Theatre - 24 January 2005 - 7.30pm

A strong performance by Meg Ryan as a teacher who becomes involved in a local murder. Also becoming involved with the detective investigating the case, she learns of more murders, including that of her sister. Suspicions grow, tension is rife and conclusions are jumped to, leading to a nail-biting finish.

AUDIENCE COMMENTS: Brilliant, fascinating and repulsive; Makes me realise what a very sheltered life I lead; Bleak, joyless and pointless; Excellent performance by Meg Ryan but a deeply unpleasant and very disorganised film; An erotic thriller, neither erotic nor thrilling. The only thing more distracting than Meg Ryan's self-conscious "grown up" acting was the director's tedious "Film School" experimentation.
