PICCADILLY
UK 1929 (PG) - 105 minutes
Ipswich Film Theatre -
8 November 2004
- 7.30pm
A London nightclub in the 20s is the setting for tantrums on the dance floor when a rival discovered in the kitchens threatens to oust the star turn. Chinatown provides the background for a tale of murder and ultimate courtroom drama. Stunning performances by Anna May Wong in this newly restored print.
AUDIENCE COMMENTS:
Outstanding in every aspect to the minutest detail;
Superb cinematic style, if rather un-PC morals for today;
Period piece - a little slow by today's standards. Shame about the music;
Good old fashioned drama, overacting galore. Wonderful;
Suitable for an historical Society. The makers would, I believe, be incredulous that a film society could find anything more worthy to watch.
