KISNA: THE WARRIOR POET
India 2005 (PG) - 170 minutes Ipswich Film Theatre -
13 March 2006
- 7.30pm
India at the time of partition: family loyalties are stretched to breaking point as Kisna struggles to deliver the young English woman, Catherine, to safety in the midst of race riots. Stunning scenery and suppressed passion make this glorious film sizzle.
AUDIENCE COMMENTS:
Wow. Brilliant in more ways than one. Fascinating. Raises questions about the British Raj, and lingering legacies. Enjoyable and also an upsetting subtext;
Great fun. Music, acting, costumes, plot. It's what we come for;
Thoroughly enjoyable. Robin Hood, Western and Busby Berkeley on acid;
The Sound of Music meets the Ganges. Superficial story, obvious acting but it was very well filmed and held my attention. What fun;
Edward D Wood is alive and living in India. Wooden acting, dreadful dialogue, dreadful makeup, dreadful stunts.
