MASTER & COMMANDER: THE FAR SIDE OF THE WORLD
USA 2003 (12A) - 138 minutes
Ipswich Film Theatre -
12 December 2005
- 7.30pm
During the Napoleonic Wars, a British frigate and a French warship stalk each other off the coast of South America. Weir's direction achieves historical authenticity and a vivid portrayal of human interaction under fire, whilst Russell Crowe brings a measured intensity to the role of the British Captain.
AUDIENCE COMMENTS:
Surely the most authentic, detailed and multi-perspective view of leadership at sea put on film;
Superb historical re-creation. Two hours slipped by in a couple of bells;
Excellent filming, good acting. Largely convincing but he played the fiddle far too well;
Romantic jingoistic nonsense;
Noisy, disjointed and pointless. A great disappointment.
