2006/07 Season
THE FOUNTAINHEAD
USA 1949 (PG) - 114 minutes
Ipswich Film Theatre -
16 October 2006
- 7.30pm
An up and coming architect with ideals clashes with big business. Based on the Ayn Rand novel, this stars Gary Cooper as an unorthodox designer who destroys a building, marries an heiress and makes a final statement by erecting a startling memorial to a dead friend.
AUDIENCE COMMENTS:
Brilliant. The melodrama, the emotions, the ultimatums. Echoes of Citizen Kane and the dark political philosophy of post-war USA;
Fantastically awful or awfully fantastic. I'm not sure, but I loved it;
So many words. Too many words. More sex, please;
Terrible hackneyed idealogies, badly stated and acted, awful props, dialogues, dreadful overblown tosh, bit I laughed a lot;
A mock gothic monstrosity that deserved to be dynamited on completion.
