2006/07 Season
THE TROUBLE WITH HARRY
USA 1955 (PG) - 99 minutes
Ipswich Film Theatre -
18 September 2006
- 7.30pm
In rural Vermont a corpse is discovered and proves singularly difficult to dispose of. Among Hitch's favourites of his own films, and shot in misleadingly ravishing autumn colours, this is at once a comedy declaring, through understatement, our need to demystify sex and death, yet an uneasy acknowledgement of those twin realities as threats to our inner peace.
AUDIENCE COMMENTS:
Splendidly bizarre black humour, still fresh 50 years on;
We laughed all the way through. Just shows what a genius Hitchcock was. How versatile;
Wonder what time their day started. It was quite a long day;
Beautifully scripted. Arnie was a touch of genius. Must remember to carry a dead rabbit at all times. You never know when it might come in handy;
Strange little black comedy. Hitchcock humour as normally seen in Hitchcock Presents TV series. Edmund Gwenn and Mildred Natwick excellent.
