2007/08 Season
CHINATOWN
USA 1974 (15) Hollywood Film Theatre -
17 September 2007
- 7.30pm
Set in 1930s Los Angeles, this classic detective tale tells of a private eye taking on a simple case which leads to murder, double-cross and a public scandal. Starring Jack Nicholson, this complex mystery explores civic and personal corruption in the style of Raymond Chandler. A worthy Oscar® winner.
AUDIENCE COMMENTS:
Still looks fresh. Houston terrifying. All those hats;
What a good start to the season. I hope it is not downhill from now on;
Beautifully filmed. Steady build up of tension gripping;
Plot has a few holes in it, but what style, What a script;
Atmospheric but ultimately wasteful and inconclusive. Wonderful musical score.
