SUNRISE: A SONG OF TWO HUMANS

USA 1927 (U)
97 minutes - Silent

Directed by F W Murnau

Hollywood Film Theatre - 15 October 2007 - 7.30pm

A classic silent film, this is a lyrical melodrama of a villager in love with a city woman. After trying to kill his wife, he repents and spends a happy day with her. Filled with intense feeling, this has simple yet striking images of unequalled beauty, winning three Academy awards.

AUDIENCE COMMENTS: I'm so glad it ended happily; Such inventive camera work. Janet Gaynor was lovely. How he could have been seduced by the city woman, I don't know; A pleasant tale of recognition and romance, but the wife was annoyingly drippy and the man annoyingly stupid; Who needs words. It was a wonderful select but appropriate stage setting. Great; Interminable. Highlights were the baby, the dog and the piglet.
