THE THREE BURIALS OF MELQUIADES ESTRADA

USA/France 2006 (15)
121 minutes

Directed by Tommy Lee Jones

Hollywood Film Theatre - 7 January 2008 - 7.30pm

This modern Western tells of the friendship between a Texas rancher and his Mexican hired hand. When the latter’s body is found in the desert, the rancher discovers the killer, forcing him to disinter the corpse. They then return it to the Mexican’s home village to perform the third burial of the title.

AUDIENCE COMMENTS: An effective argument for creation; Stunning scenery. Redemption! Kept me hooked; A classic story of frontiers and the people of the margins; It is well worth a second viewing. I was particularly struck with the magnificent photography; Beautifully filmed, well told, but ultimately pointless.
