2008/09 Season
THE KITE RUNNER
USA 2007 (12A) Hollywood Film Theatre -
18 May 2009
- 7.30pm
Riding on the back of a widely read book, Forster's film is a well-judged adapation which, despite its American origin, convincingly immerses one in Afghan culture. The story is a classic one of childhood betrayal and the search for redemption. The title alludes to the popular Afghan practice of kite-flying contests.
AUDIENCE COMMENTS:
What came over to me was the courage that was portrayed throughout;
Excellent says it all. The best film in a long while. Sensitive, brutal and well told;
A disappointing adaptation;
Revolting, violent, belongs in another culture. Touching moments, though.
