So goes the song, and as the chanteuse lies dying, we are transported back over the very many things which she might indeed regret. Shorn of the strict chronology of the conventional biopic, Dahan's film emerges as a powerfully moving panegyric of one artist's extraordinary talent and courage. AUDIENCE COMMENTS: Have no regrets seeing it for the third time; Mesmerising. Warts and all portrayal; Brilliant quite brilliant in every way. This film explained much I didn't understand; I hadn't realised what her background was. Tremendous acting. Very powerful. Marvelous singing. Very sad ending; Muddled and manipulative.
