In Bruges (2007) In Bruges (2007) In Bruges (2007)

2009/10 Season

IN BRUGES

US/UK/Germany 2007 (18)
107 minutes

Directed by Martin McDonagh

Hollywood Film Theatre - 18 January 2010 - 7.30pm

Two hit men are holed up in Bruges awaiting orders after a job goes wrong. As Ray, the younger one, moans with boredom and looks around for drugs and girls, avuncular Ken soaks up the medieval atmosphere and happily turns tourist until unwelcome instructions come from London. Funny and brutal, with great performances.

AUDIENCE COMMENTS: Grimly dark comedy that breaks down stereotypes of the gangster genre; Can't believe there were so many deaths and I wasn't scared. Oddly amusing; Did everyone have to be so evil? Bruges, great. Filming, excellent. Shame about the story; A compelling class of styles. Amost a new genre of film, a "gangster farce"; Badly cast, badly acted. Unbelievable story. What a waste.
