2009/10 Season
THE EDGE OF HEAVEN
Germany/Turkey/Italy 2007 (15) Hollywood Film Theatre -
8 March 2010
- 7.30pm
In Akin's affecting drama, a young Turkish emigre jorneys to Istanbul in search of the daughter of his father's dead lover, who is already in Germany about to be deported. The film intriguingly counterpoints the movements of two groups of characters.
AUDIENCE COMMENTS:
Convoluted timeline but beautifully shot and very moving;
Marvellous. Evocative music. Beautiful in all its guises;
Understated, atmospheric and well acted. Pity the old man was so unpleasant;
Could have done with coloured subtitles to differentiate between German and Turkish dialogue;
Disturbing, but too disjointed and strangely uninvolving. Ultimately unsatisfying.
