2009/10 Season
HONEYDRIPPER
US 2007 (PG) Hollywood Film Theatre -
22 February 2010
- 7.30pm
Set in 1950s Alabama this is a warm, good natured account of the attempt to attract customers to the Honeydripper Lounge. Advertising the forthcoming appearance of Guitar Sam, the owner has to think on his feet when Sam doesn't turn up. A young wandering guitarist is persuaded to take his place and the fate of the Honeydripper hangs in the balance.
AUDIENCE COMMENTS:
Very well acted, beautifully shot, great music but I needed subtitles;
Greek chorus or guardian angel? He made the film for me;
Rather slow but compulsive viewing. Well acted and eventually feel-good. Geat music;
Echoes of "Prairie Home Companion" but without the wit. Too long, drawn out. Great ending;
Sweetly well intentioned but very slow and implausible.
