2009/10 Season
HUD
US 1963 (12) Hollywood Film Theatre -
22 March 2010
- 7.30pm
Our tribute to Paul Newman features him as an amoral cowboy who is a bad influence on his household. Set on a Texas ranch in an arid landscape, this character drama is both moving and erotic. With award-winning actress Patricia Neal and supporting actor Oscar winner Melvyn Douglas.
AUDIENCE COMMENTS:
Simmering with anger, regret, insecurity and cool all at the same time;
Dated but still relevant. Wonderful dialogue by Grandad;
Had to watch. An ugly and sad story, beautifully portrayed;
Some films are a disappointment after 40 years, but not this. Beautiful black and white photography, cracking dialogue and perfect casting;
A bit too long and drawn out but good characterisations and a product of its time.
