The Pope’s Toilet (2007) The Pope’s Toilet (2007) The Pope’s Toilet (2007)

2009/10 Season

THE POPE'S TOILET

Uruguay/Brazil/France 2007 (15)
98 minutes

Directed by Cesar Charlone & Enrique Fernandez

Hollywood Film Theatre - 1 February 2010 - 7.30pm

Based on true events, this is an ironic look at what happened when smugglers in a Uruguay/Brazil border town turned capitalist opportunists in order to cash in on the Pope's prospective stopover visit. Our redoubtable heroes host a loo for the convenience of the many tourists who will inevitably flock to the town.

AUDIENCE COMMENTS: Terrific! What fine acting and the lack of music made the drip, drip, drip a high point; Desperately poor but not in spirit, thank goodness; Slow moving but with charm; Good acting but very depressing; A man cannot take many close ups of bicycle wheels and not very pleasant people.
