2010/11 Season
MILK
USA 2008 (15) Ipswich Film Theatre -
13 September 2010
- 7.30pm
This is the biopic of Harvey Milk, the openly gay San Fransisco politician who was shot to death by his fellow city supervisor Dan White in 1978. Against a background of homophobia, the character, well portrayed by Sean Penn, shows his warmth and a mischievous streak.
AUDIENCE COMMENTS:
Should be screened in every school (and church);
Fascinating insight into the gay political scene in America at that time;
A bit slow, but an important film on an important subject - and a scarily short time ago. Memorable performance from Penn;
More an education than an entertainment;
Interesting content but overlong and hard to hear.
