O'Horten (2007) O'Horten (2007) O'Horten (2007)

2010/11 Season

O'HORTEN

Norway/Ger/France/Den 2007 (12A)
90 minutes

Directed by Bent Hamer

Ipswich Film Theatre - 23 May 2011 - 7.30pm

Hamer made an extraordinary film about observing people in their kitchens (Kitchen Stories). In this, his new bittersweet film about old age, he deploys some of the same jaundiced humour. It concerns an engine driver and his experiences immediately pre- and post-retirement.

AUDIENCE COMMENTS: Beautifully observed, nicely understated, excellent cinematography; Norwegian snow must be different. Their trains seem to keep moving. Perhaps there's something to learn from them; Gentle and absorbing, sad and funny, never overdire; So slow but so good. Just loved the journey through the tunnels; By the time we got to the ski slope, I'd given up caring.
