2011/12 Season
ANOTHER YEAR
UK 2010 (12) Ipswich Film Theatre -
23 January 2012
- 7.30pm
The year in question is divided into four seasons, each marked by Tom and his wife’s visit to their allotment. They and their son are content, but others are not, and it’s they whose unhappiness affects those around them. Leigh in bittersweet vein.
AUDIENCE COMMENTS:
I really enjoyed this film. Mike Leigh has the knack of taking the ordinary and making it extraordinary. Beautifully filmed and well acted;
British character actors at their best. Superb, comedy and tragedy in a perfect mix;
A poignant study of life and death with a touch of smugness too;
Excellent understatement, as ever, of compexity of ordinary people;
Seriously honest and virtuous, but oh so dreary.
