2011/12 Season

IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE

USA 1946 (U)
129 minutes

Directed by Frank Capra

Ipswich Film Theatre - 19 December 2011 - 7.30pm

George Bailey always wanted to explore and see the world; instead he is stuck in Bedford Falls in charge of the family-run bank. As he is about to cash in his chips an angel is sent down to point out all the good he has done. America's Christmas Carol.

AUDIENCE COMMENTS: Like re-reading a favourite book, no surprises, but still a tear-jerker; Pretty much an unimprovable film even though it's about bankers; Unremittingly corny but I still had a great big lump in my throat at the end; Pure escapism, but there's a moral in there somewhere; Religion and capitalism, the American dream, a nightmare. The most wooden acting in the last century.
