Winter's Bone (2010) Winter's Bone (2010) Winter's Bone (2010)

2011/12 Season

WINTER'S BONE

USA 2010 (15)
100 minutes

Directed by Debra Granik

Ipswich Film Theatre - 19 March 2012 - 7.30pm

Set in the Ozark Mountains, this is a story of a heroic young girl risking her life to protect her home. The girl’s strong sense of family versus the local community’s culture of clan control by criminal gangs provides a tense drama.

AUDIENCE COMMENTS: Brought out the best in almost everyone. Sub-titles should be on all American films; Gruesome, gritting and engrossing; A strange, rather sordid tale of small town America, but very well acted and poignant portrayal of poverty, despair and the criminal fraternity; Rough and raw. Good but not the "feel good factor" good; Mostly baffling. Couldn't tell the male characters apart, couldn't understand their motivation, couldn't see any moral context for their actions.
