2012/13 Season
THE CONFORMIST
Italy/France/Germany 1970 (15) Ipswich Film Theatre -
12 November 2012
- 7.30pm
This is set in the 1930s when the son of socially disgraced parents attempts to rehabilitate himself with the Mussolini regime by becoming a political flunky, and ultimately an assassin. Trintignant is mesmerising and Vittorio Storaro’s cinematography beautiful at a time when political cinema tended not to be.
AUDIENCE COMMENTS:
Excellent does not do it justice;
Brilliant camera work, beautifully filmed;
Stylish and enigmatic;
Impressive to watch but difficult to follow;
I need an explanation;
A muddled long-winded mess – just about saved by the acting;
Boring film!
