2012/13 Season
THE LAST PICTURE SHOW
USA 1971 (15) Ipswich Film Theatre -
8 April 2013
- 7.30pm
Set in a bleak, isolated, atrophied West Texas town which is slowly dying both economically and culturally, the film chronicles the generational rites of passage of a group of high school pupils. Set in the early 1950s the film pays homage to Hollywood’s classical age.
AUDIENCE COMMENTS:
Saw it the first time around! Still thought it was one of the best films ever made. Has stood the test of time better than me;
Always thought Texas was hot, but not in that way;
Fascinating to see the young stars. A well acted but thoroughly depressing film;
Hardly entertaining;
Thought it would never end. Can’t think why it started.
