2013/14 Season
INCENDIES
Canada/France 2010 (15) Ipswich Film Theatre -
9 September 2013
- 7.30pm
Lacerating political drama about a young woman of Middle Eastern origin who honours the terms of her mother’s will by returning to the unnamed country of her misfortunes. There she attempts to unearth the truth about her shared past. Formally restrained but powerful film-making.
AUDIENCE COMMENTS:
Brutal, compelling but somehow weirdly uplifting;
Marvellous – I’ll never forget this film;
Harrowing. Utterly compelling. Glad I’ve seen it but could never watch it again. I’m guessing there’s no blooper reel;
Wow! Now I’ll go and watch an Oliver Stone movie for some light relief;
Not exactly a bundle of laughs to start the season – but impressive nonetheless.
