2013/14 Season
TABU
Portugal/Ger/Brazil/France 2012 (15) Ipswich Film Theatre -
28 April 2014
- 7.30pm
A beautiful, playful film about an ageing woman, whose deceased neighbour’s maid helps her find a man with links to her past in Africa. A tantalising mixture of Raul Ruiz and Robert Flaherty, this film occupies a world all its own and ranked second in Sight and Sound’s Top Ten last year.
AUDIENCE COMMENTS:
I was lost in the first part and mostly slept, but the second part was magical;
Oh dear – a sad tale ending in lonely obscurity. What became of the crocodile?
There was no humour here – it was a tragedy;
Even at a second viewing I thought it went on a bit;
Quite simply the most tedious film I’ve ever seen!
