Paths of Glory (1957) Paths of Glory (1957) Paths of Glory (1957)

2014/15 Season

PATHS OF GLORY

USA 1957 (PG)
86 minutes

Directed by Stanley Kubrick

Ipswich Film Theatre - 6 October 2014 - 7.30pm

French soldiers refuse to obey orders during World War I, and are court martialled. Churchill spoke highly of this film, for exposing the workings of the military mind. In 1969 Kirk Douglas recalled: “…there’s a picture that will always be good, years from now…”

AUDIENCE COMMENTS: Any Kubrick film is a masterpiece and a viewing is always very welcome; A masterpiece – worth a year’s membership on its own; Struggled with the American accents for French soldiers. Very classy camera panning shots and moving performances; I feel wrung-out after watching this film! Much better than expected but a tough one; Disappointing – the non-battle scenes clumsily directed. Menjou ridiculous. Good ending.
