2014/15 Season
WAJDA
Saudi Arabia/Germany 2012 (PG) Ipswich Film Theatre -
9 March 2015
- 7.30pm
This inspiring story of a Saudi girl entering a Koran recital competition in order to raise the price tag on a coveted bicycle is doubly transgressive since, in Saudi Arabia, women are permitted neither to ride bikes nor make movies.
AUDIENCE COMMENTS:
Wonderful, moving, life affirming and an eye-opener;
What a good film – a real treat;
Slow but sensitively made and an interesting glimpse of Saudi conservatism;
A nice little story, well told, if not always easy to follow;
Charming, but a little too slow.
