2015/16 Season
LEVIATHAN
Russia 2014 (15) Ipswich Film Theatre -
21 March 2016
- 7.30pm
Zvyagintsev’s Job-like depiction of a man at the end of his tether, fighting a compulsory purchase order on his family home. Dealing with an impassive and politically compromised judicial system, this adds up to a damning indictment of the state of contemporary Russia itself.
AUDIENCE COMMENTS:
At last – a film of substance. Fabulous;
Not an easy film to watch. The landscape, the colours, the weather, perfectly represents the helplessness and desperation;
Miserably educational – not sure it was worth it;
With some decent editing it might have been a good film;
Epic – landscapes.
