2015/16 Season
THE LONG GOODBYE
US 1973 (18) Ipswich Film Theatre -
30 November 2015
- 7.30pm
After the success of M*A*S*H, Altman chose to work again with Elliott Gould, this time in the part of detective Philip Marlowe. Gould excels in this update of a Chandler novel, thus allowing the director plenty of scope to comment on American Society.
AUDIENCE COMMENTS:
Loved it – Gould is extremely charismatic. Really liked the young Arnie cameo;
Wonderful soundtrack, humour and filming but poor sound quality;
Mild porn, lots of fags and a good slap;
It was nothing like the book. I’d like to read the book;
Excellent film ruined by the volume of its soundtrack – what a shame!
