TO BE OR NOT TO BE

US 1942 (U) 99 minutes Directed by Ernst Lubitsch

Ipswich Film Theatre - 11 January 2016 - 7.30pm Carole Lombard (in her last ever film) plays Maria Tura and Jack Benny is her husband Joseph, actors in a Warsaw theatre company in occupied Poland. With fast and witty dialogue and a strong cast, this remained unreleased until the US entered WW2. AUDIENCE COMMENTS: Thoroughly enjoyed it – a good laugh. Hammy actors pretending to be hammy actors; Very entertaining – it is good to see old films occasionally; A jolly little farce – not quite what I’d been expecting; Unbelievable; A very clever plot, but dated to the point of being tasteless.
