2016/17 Season
BLANCANIEVES
Spain/Belgium/France 2012 (12) Ipswich Film Theatre -
6 March 2017
- 7.30pm
This extraordinary film centres around a woman bullfighter in 1920s Spain, and is a retread of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves in black and white! It is also a silent film, except that its beating heart is the fantastic flamenco music that courses through it, and you will find nothing so inventive in many a month at the movies.
AUDIENCE COMMENTS:
Remarkable how excellent cinematography and music can make dialogue superfluous;
Beautiful composed in the period style – a bit creepy at the end;
Three cheers for bulls, chickens and handsome princes;
What a strange film – a whole new genre for me. Surreal, delightful and disturbing;
(Brothers) Grim(m) – but great acting by Pepe the Chicken.
