2016/17 Season
CAROL
US 2015 (15) Ipswich Film Theatre -
24 April 2017
- 7.30pm
Carol Aird (Cate Blanchett) goes Christmas shopping in 1950s New York City. Shop assistant Thérèse Belivet (Rooney Mara) helps her choose a train set ...and more. Oscar® nominated and a subtle, sumptuous, adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s novel The Price of Salt, this is also a beautifully nostalgic evocation of its period. The presentation begins with the short film We Were Evergreen: Daughters.
AUDIENCE COMMENTS:
Wonderful moody photography matched the performances;
Glossy and stylish and captured the early 50s beautifully. Well told with convincing sexual chemistry between the two leading ladies;
Poignant and very well acted;
Jealous husband, two women in love, jilted boyfriend, dreadfully slow – nice sets though;
Loved the music, powerful acting but sometimes moved too slowly.
