Mustang (2015) Mustang (2015) Mustang (2015)

2017/18 Season

Turkey 2015 (15)
97 minutes

Directed by Deniz Gamze Ergüven

Ipswich Film Theatre - 8 January 2018 - 7.30pm

A family whose five daughters are seen playing freely with boys their own age is shamed into incarcerating them at home, removing them from Western education and hastily finding husbands for them. The girls nevertheless find expression for their libertarian instincts, in what may be an allegory of political freedoms. The presentation begins with the short film Rhonna & Donna (2016).

AUDIENCE COMMENTS: Marvellous, eloquent, even without the subtitles. A joy; Well done, a difficult subject but well addressed; What a lively bunch of girls, then the subtitles went. Very enjoyable and poignant. Would like to see again; Enhanced by a lack of subtitles; Very glad I stayed. Superb cinematography. Words not required.
