2017/18 Season

SEARCHING FOR SUGAR MAN

Sweden/UK/Finland 2012 (12A)
86 minutes

Directed by Malik Bendjelloul

Ipswich Film Theatre - 18 December 2017 - 7.30pm

Detroit folk musician Rodriguez almost hit the big time in the 1970s. Then he just disappeared… But in apartheid-era South Africa thousands kept listening to his albums. This Oscar® winning film tells the story of two of those fans who search for him. Tremendous music throughout. The presentation begins with the short film Rachel Scott - Made in London (2017).

AUDIENCE COMMENTS: Thank you so much for showing this. Great story, great music; Loved the film, what a fab story. Went home smiling; Not at all sure. Felt like a fake documentary. Too slow. Self indulgent; What a gentle, unassuming, humble man. Brilliant; The real thing. One of the best.
