Hello and welcome to the 83rd Season of Ipswich Film Society, a year in which we shall also be celebrating our 90th anniversary since inception! We exist to share the treasures of world cinema with a local audience of enthusiasts, whether cinephiles or just people who enjoy viewing a film with other like minded individuals. Come and join us at the King Street Cinema for sixteen Mondays over the coming year! You are guaranteed to catch something you might not otherwise have seen, and can share your thoughts with other members via our reaction slip system. The keynote of our programme is variety, combining recent successes with the occasional gem from the past, films that yield their pleasures willingly with others requiring thought and attention. The essential ingredient is that they at least provide a view of the human experience that rings true, and that is what this season’s films all achieve once again. Our cover feature is Twelve Angry Men, a film that carries with it a certain reputation but is deceptively little seen. We are also showing City of God, a film that spearheaded a resurgence of Latin American cinema earlier this century, and Grave of the Fireflies, a Studio Ghibli masterpiece from the 80s. As the art form enters its fourteenth decade it becomes ever more important to remind ourselves of the pinnacles reached in former times. Membership is £54 for adults and £27 for students and under-26s, and with it comes a booklet of programme notes on each film. Guests are welcome if you wish to bring someone on occasion (£5 or £2.50 payable on the door). Apply online below or send a cheque to our Membership Secretary as indicated on the application form, available at King Street Cinema, the Town Hall and an array of town centre venues. I look forward to greeting you in the autumn, whether new members or old. Meanwhile, have a great summer at our partner cinema, KSc, which promises an interesting line-up of new releases and revivals.
Membership £54.00 - Students & Under 26 £27.00
