THE RED VIOLIN

Canada/Italy/USA/UK 1998 (15) - 130 minutes
Subtitled in parts

Directed by Francois Girard

Ipswich Film Theatre - 24 September 2001- 7.30pm

This saga of a legendary violin starts in a 17th century workshop and ranges across 300 years through Europe, China and North America. Bringing sorrow to its owners down the ages, the violin appears in a present-day Montreal auction where we gradually understand the bidders' individual motives. Music is superb.
