2006/07 Season
YOJIMBO
Japan 1961 (PG) - 110 minutes Ipswich Film Theatre -
27 November 2006
- 7.30pm
A witty story of a wandering mercenary Samurai who after selling his services to them tricks two rival gangs of cut-throats into destroying each other. A comedy film noir with a main character (Mifune) who is lazy, unheroic and pragmatic.
AUDIENCE COMMENTS:
One of the proofs that Easterns are Westerns with depth;
Good music. Adds to the humour. How do they manage to move around so quickly wearing flipflops;
Lovely black and white photography. Dreadful music, completely unsuitable. Generally good fun;
Painful soundtrack, monotonous storyline, but some interesting drama;
A problem film because you don't know where your sympathies lie for such a long time.
