2013/14 Season
THE WAGES OF FEAR
France/Italy 1953 (PG) Ipswich Film Theatre -
27 January 2014
- 7.30pm
Nerve-rending suspense film about expat drifters who sign up to drive truckloads of nitroglycerine over bumpy Venezuelan roads, as an escape from their existence – one way or another. Clouzot’s classic reeks with his characteristic pessimism about the human condition.
AUDIENCE COMMENTS:
As good as it was when I last watched it as a school boy;
Would make a brilliant health and safety film;
It blew me away;
What I want to know is what happened to the can of nitroglycerine they took off the lorry to syphon from;
Thought that’s how to die on the way back;
Truly dreadful!
