2018/19 Season

A TASTE OF HONEY

UK 1961 (X)
101 minutes

Directed by Tony Richardson

Ipswich Film Theatre - 19 November 2018 - 7.30pm

Rita Tushingham, in her screen debut, plays Jo: young, lonely, and very soon pregnant and homeless. Her mother, an unforgettable Dora Bryan, has a new man in her life (Robert Stephens). But in Murray Melvin Jo hopes she’s found a true friend and protector. The presentation begins with the short film Made in London: Chris Keenan (2017).

AUDIENCE COMMENTS: A compelling, truthful film that has stood the test of time; Every film should include Dora Bryan in a plastic mac swinging her handbag. Loved the signs of the times; A fine bit of early 60s kitchen sink drama. What a different world, even though I experienced the North of England just a couple of years later; The landscape changes but the human issues remain the same; Good to finally see such a classic film. I found it rather stilted and clumsy in dialogue. Can’t believe the original certificate.
